Until recently, William J. "Bud" Schell, Jr. was the oldest surviving graduate of New Lebanon Central School.  He was born April 23, 1917 and took leave of us on June 25, 2020 in Florida at the age of 103.  Following a graveside service on October 1, Bud was buried in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in New Lebanon, NY.

At the bottom of this webpage are other things to view.

Cremains of Bud Schell are in the gray box on the chair.

To the left is the gravestone for Bud and his wife Carol.

In front of the gravestone a hole was dug.  It is temporarily

covered by a square slate.  The dirt which was removed is

below the green carpet.  A small shovel rests on the carpet.

The flag represents his service to the country during World

War II as part of the United States Army Air Corps from

April 18,1941 to December 1945.

A minister officiates at the service (his name and church are unknown).

Richard Hindman takes a photo or video.  Between them is

Cathy Schell, daughter of Bud Schell.

Bud's cremains are gently placed above Carol's casket by

Richard Hindman, Bud's son-in-law, who married

Elizabeth "Beth" Schell.  Above him (in white sweater)

is Mary Godfroy Young (NLCS '67).

On the right is Ed Godfroy, cemetery superintendent.

Catherine Schell (NLCS '66) places soil on her father's ashes.  Those

who wished to do so could place a bit of soil on Bud's cremains.

This is to symbolize that the deceased has returned to the earth

from which he came.  The woman in black to the left of Cathy Schell

is Ruth Sharp Lasher (NLCS '69), who is now Secretary for the

Cemetery of the Evergreens.

Beth was the daughter of Bud Schell and the wife of

Richard Hindman.  She is buried in the same cemetery.
